College Admissions Consulting for Canada’s Students

College Consulting for Canada

According to IIE’s Open Doors report, close to 29,000 Canadian students are enrolled in United States colleges and universities, a number that is expected to grow over the next decade. Only four nations send more international students to the United States, and students from Canada comprise more than 3 percent of the international student population.

Canada’s students often point to greater institutional diversity, liberal arts education, and the opportunity to live and work in the United States as reasons for applying to American colleges and universities.  And given Canada’s excellent secondary education system, many of Canada’s students are primed to succeed in U.S. higher education. However, relatively few Canadian students possess the knowledge and support necessary to navigate the U.S. college admissions process. Many Canadian counselors are unfamiliar with the diversity of colleges in the United States, as well as the variability and nuances of their admissions requirements.  Equally concerning, many private counselors (in the U.S. and elsewhere) are unaware of the more stringent admissions standards that Canadian students face.

For nearly 15 years, the admissions consultants and private college counselors at College Transitions have guided Canada’s students though the U.S. college admissions process, helping them to meet course and standardized test requirements while also teaching them how to showcase the “soft” qualities that have become increasingly important to America’s best colleges—through writing college essays, building an extracurricular profile, soliciting letters of recommendation, demonstrating interest, preparing for college interviews, and articulating the unique experiences and perspectives they are capable of bringing to a college campus.  Canadian students previously working with College Transitions counselors have secured admission into Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Columbia, Stanford, Georgetown, MIT, Dartmouth, Penn, Cornell, UC Berkeley, the University of Chicago, Northwestern and several other highly selective colleges and universities in the United States.  Currently, College Transitions works with Canadian students attending some of the best public and private high schools in Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Hamilton, and Ottawa.
