Research conducted by the American School Counselor Association shows that average student-to-counselor ratios in the Seattle area are approaching 500-to-1, and are as high as 700-to-1 at some Seattle high schools. Guidance counselors serve an essential function within our education systems and aid the personal, social and intellectual development of our youth. Yet, they are increasingly unable to provide adequate college planning and guidance. Often compelled to address the more “immediate” needs of the student population, school counselors in Seattle and other areas have spent less, not more, time on college-admissions related tasks in recent years, despite the fact that the college admissions process has become more complex. As a result, many Seattle area students and their families are unable to rely on their schools for support related to college search, college list development, college essay coaching, college application review, extracurricular planning, college interview prep, financial aid and scholarship guidance and other critical college planning tasks.
College Transitions aims to meet the outstanding college-related needs of Seattle area students and their families by providing comprehensive college admissions consulting services to high schools students throughout the Seattle area, including those attending Garfield, Interlake, Bainbridge, Aviation, Friday Harbor, and Bellevue high schools, among others. Our research background and extensive college planning and admissions experience enable us to provide a level of service that few others can offer. In the past, we have helped Seattle area students earn admission at some the best colleges and universities in the Northwest–including the University of Washington, Whitman College, and Reed College—and elsewhere, such as UC Berkeley, Stanford, UCLA, Pomona, Harvey Mudd, and others.
