Top Film Colleges

As a film major, you’ll learn the technical, theoretical, and practical aspects of media production and how to tell stories through the visual medium. In addition to hands-on coursework in areas such as editing, directing, acting, screenwriting, and sound production, film majors also study the history of cinema, the works of great directors, as well as the theoretical underpinnings of the craft.

Film majors typically aspire to careers in directing, screenwriting, editing, producing, or a wealth of other behind-the-scenes roles in the entertainment industry. However, finding success with a film degree is not entirely dependent on the whims of Hollywood. Film majors can also consider other related careers such as: advertising, marketing, communications, copywriter, film critic, or teaching.

What do you need to make it in a Film program?

Students concentrating in film need attributes well beyond sheer academic prowess to be successful. The ability to connect with an audience through story, think creatively, as well as possessing an artist’s eye are some of the qualities that separate film majors from the rest of the pack. Those who are highly-organized, disciplined, determined, and responsive to criticism/feedback are at an advantage both in school and upon entering the profession.
