About Us

Outset is a 1-week pre-college summer camp on the campus of UNC-Chapel Hill for 9th-12th grade students interested in physician careers. Our goal is to help students interested in medicine learn more about the path to being a doctor and what the career is like. We have 3 tracks: primary care, pediatrics, and surgery. Applications are open for summer 2024!

You’ll have the opportunity to explore UNC’s campus, hear from world-class physicians and medical school professors, and build friendships with other high-schoolers interested in the M.D. path. For our program, we partner with leading physicians and medical faculty at Duke University and UNC-Chapel Hill to introduce your students to medical careers and opportunities.

Outset’s Mission Statement

The medical education path is long and challenging. Many students who could be great physicians drop out because of a lack of preparation and insider information. We founded Outset so that students could prepare early and comprehensively for the medical education journey.

As part of the program, you will:

Take hospital & med school tours
Visit some of North Carolina’s top medical schools and hospitals and hear what it takes to get there.

Live at UNC-Chapel Hill
Live in dorms with other students on campus at UNC-Chapel Hill. Experience university life firsthand.

Build friendships with future doctors
Build lifelong friendships with other high schoolers across the US who are serious about careers in medicine.

Engage with world-class speakers & curriculum
Learn from world-class professors and physicians affiliated with UNC-Chapel Hill and Duke Medical Schools.

Tuition Info

Outset is an educational investment and we strive to deliver a world-class program. The cost for each 1-week session in 2024 is $2,499. However, we are also 100% committed to helping students who qualify with financial aid.

In addition to the aforementioned pre-med activities, costs help to cover:

• A 7:1 student-to-staff ratio
• Staff who are available 24/7 during programs.
• High-quality housing accommodations and food for the week.
