UGA Football Schedule 2024 & Bulldog History
May 21, 2024
The University of Georgia is one of the winningest programs in college football, capturing back-to-back national championships in 2021 and 2022. Since 2000, the Dawgs have the fourth-best winning percentage of any college football team in the nation. Last year, despite being the top-ranked team for nearly the entire season, they failed to make the College Football Playoffs. They look to right the ship this season starting on Aug. 31 in the Aflac Kickoff Game against the Clemson Tigers. See below for the full UGA football schedule 2024.

Georgia Football Coaches
UGA is a storied program with iconic coaches – 26 to be exact, dating back to 1892 (hey, Dr. Herty went 1-1 that year!). Current head coach Kirby Smart may go down as one of the best. Let’s look back on some of the most influential head coaches in UGA history.
Kirby Smart (2016-Present, 81-15, .844 winning percentage)
Smart joined the Bulldogs in 2016 after serving as defensive coordinator with rival Alabama. Smart is a Georgia kid, born and raised in Georgia and having been a 4-year letterman with UGA from 1994-98. Since coming to Georgia, Smart has done one thing: win. His resume is downright impressive and he’s already vaulted himself into the GOAT discussion, but he needs to amass some more years at the helm to fully take the crown. The Bulldogs have gone 46-2 in their last 48 games and he boasts the best winning percentage of any coach in program history.
Despite his numbers, he’s not the winningest coach in UGA football history, that title belongs to the man below…
UGA Football Schedule 2024 & Bulldog History (Continued)
Vince Dooley (1964-1988, 201-77, .698 winning percentage)
One of the greatest to ever walk the sideline, Dooley coached the Bulldogs for a quarter of a century and owns the record for most wins (201), including six SEC titles and a 1980 national championship.
He recently passed away in 2022 but his imprint on the program is undeniable.
Mark Richt (2001-2015, 145-51, .740 winning percentage)
In many ways, UGA is the program it is today because of Mark Richt. He helped usher the Bulldogs into the modern era during his 15-year tenure and was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 2023.
Georgia National Championships
The standard at UGA is winning – and not just conference titles. This program has won four national titles (1942, 1980, 2021, and 2022), including back-to-back crowns just two years ago.
- 1942 (11-1)
UGA finished off a strong ‘42 campaign with a Rose Bowl win over UCLA, 9-0 in front of a capacity crowd of 92,000. The ‘42 team was led by Heisman Award Winner Frank Sinkwich and coach Wally Butts. At the end of the year, the Dawgs finished #1 in over half of the season-ending polls for their first National Championship.
- 1980 (12-0)
UGA Football Schedule 2024 & Bulldog History (Continued)
The Vince Dooley-led Bulldog team beat Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl, 17-10. Running back Herschel Walker finished third in Heisman voting this year and would eventually win the award two years later.
- 2021 (14-1)
In head coach Kirby Smart’s sixth season, the Bulldogs defeated Michigan in the semifinals of the College Football Playoffs to face rival Alabama in the National Championship Game. It was the second time UGA/Bama played that season, with Alabama winning in the SEC Championship game a month earlier. However, the Bulldogs prevailed when it mattered most, winning 33-18 behind a two-touchdown performance from QB Stetson Bennett.
- 2022 (15-0)
After losing to Alabama in the ‘21 SEC Championship game, the Bulldogs rattled off 17 straight victories in a torrid ‘22 campaign. Was this team one of the best in CFB history? There’s a strong case to be made, as the reigning champs beat TCU 65-7 (not a typo!) in the College Football Playoff National Championship game to capture the title. The team was led again by QB Bennett who had a 6-touchdown performance and a 150-yard day by tight end Brock Bowers.

The rivalry between Georgia and Alabama is growing more significant each season and it’s easy to see why. These teams don’t just play games, they play BIG games – SEC Championships, National Championships, must-see TV moments!
Historically, the teams first played each other in 1895 and have played 73 times in the years since. UGA has a record of 26-43-4 against ‘Bama. Despite UGA’s recent success, Alabama has won 8 of the last 9 meetings.
Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry
