New findings released by the American School Counselor Association reveals that student-to-counselor ratios in Indianapolis are exceedingly high, more than 500-to-1 at many high schools throughout the Indy metro area. Indianapolis school-based counselors are competent, sufficiently-trained, and support the academic and emotional well-being of students; however, due to multiple job roles and increasing caseloads, most counselors can no longer devote the time and effort necessary to college guidance and to effectively supporting students through the college search, admissions, and financial aid process. As a consequence, many Indianapolis area students are left without the assistance needed to successfully navigate the college admissions process and to engage in the necessary tasks to enroll at suitable college and universities. These tasks include, but are not limited to, creating a list of target colleges, planning high school coursework and extracurricular involvement, applying for internships and summer program opportunities, navigating college application requirements, completing college application forms, writing college essays, and obtaining financial aid and college scholarships. This is why many Indianapolis area families seek out private college consulting.
College Transitions aims to address the current college admission-related needs of Indianapolis families, primarily by offering comprehensive college planning and college admissions consulting services to students living in Carmel, Fishers, Zionsville, Williams Creek, Meridian Hills and other nearby locations. As higher education researchers and college admission professionals, we develop evidence-based college admissions strategies that help our students earn entry into competitive colleges throughout the U.S., including many in the Midwest, such as Notre Dame, University of Chicago, Northwestern, Butler, Indiana University, Washington University, Oberlin, and others. Our results attest to the effectiveness of our counseling and strategies.
Over the past several years, College Transitions has guided students at a number of Indianapolis high schools, including Carmel High, Fishers High, Hamilton Southeastern High, Park Tudor School, University High and several others.
