New findings released by the National Association for College Admission Counseling reveals that student-to-counselor ratios in Long Island are exceedingly high, more than 400-to-1 at many high schools throughout the state. Long Island’s school counselors are competent, adequately-trained, and support the academic and personal well-being of the state’s students; however, due to manifold job roles and growing caseloads, most counselors can no longer devote the time and attention needed to effectively guiding students through the college search, admissions, and financial aid process. As a result, many Long Island students are left without the help needed to successfully navigate the college admissions process and ultimately enroll at suitable college and universities. These tasks include creating a list of prospective colleges, planning high school coursework and extracurricular participation, applying to internships and summer program opportunities, understanding college application requirements, completing college application forms, writing college essays, and securing financial aid and college scholarships.
College Transitions aims to address the current college admission-related needs of Long Island families, primarily by offering comprehensive college planning and admissions consulting services to students and families living in Brookville, Kings Point, Old Westbury, Nissequogue, Southhampton, Lattingtown, Garden City, Port Washington and other Long Island locations. As higher education researchers and college admission professionals, we develop research-backed college admissions strategies that help our students earn entry into selective and reputable colleges throughout the U.S., including many in New England, such as Dartmouth College, Harvard University, Middlebury College, Amherst College, Tufts University, Smith College, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Bowdoin College, and others. Our results attest to the effectiveness of our college planning program.
