Transfer (vs. Freshman) Admission Rates

Looking to transfer into the school of your dreams? It’s important to realistically assess your chances of acceptance as transfer admission rates vary greatly among the nation’s selective colleges and universities. For example transfer students are accepted a rate lower than 5% at Harvard, Yale, Stanford, MIT, Caltech, and a handful of other highly-selective schools. On the other end of the spectrum, excellent schools like Hofstra, Elon, James Madison, University of Georgia, and Southern Methodist University all sport acceptance rates above 60%. The numbers in the following table, which offers a sortable database of freshmen vs. transfer admission rates, was collected from various institution websites and via a survey of college admission officers. All data is from the 2016-17 admission cycle, the most recent year for which transfer data is made available.
