New findings released by the National Association for College Admission Counseling reveals that student-to-counselor ratios in U.S. high schools are exceedingly high, more than 400-to-1 at many high schools throughout the U.S. Secondary schools in Vancouver and Canada, in general, also experience high student-to-counselor ratios due to many of the same resource constraints as U.S. high schools. Vancouver’s school counselors are competent, adequately-trained, and support the academic and personal well-being of students; however, due to manifold job roles and growing caseloads, most counselors can no longer devote the time and attention needed to effectively guiding students through the college search, admissions, and financial aid process. As a result, many Vancouver students are left without the help needed to successfully navigate the college admissions process and ultimately enroll at suitable college and universities. These tasks include creating a list of prospective colleges, planning high school coursework and extracurricular participation, applying to internships and summer program opportunities, understanding college application requirements, completing college application forms, writing college essays, and securing financial aid and college scholarships.
A team of expert college counselors and admissions consultants, College Transitions can provide Vancouver students and families with college-related support they need, primarily by offering assistance with course planning, extracurricular planning and resume development, college search, college application completion, college essay coaching, college interview prep, financial aid and scholarship guidance and other important college admission activities.
